We are a group of Language and Communication majors at the University of Hong Kong and we would like to share our research findings of the language choice of Thai-Chinese communities in Hong Kong, and how it impacts their self-identity.
Our research is to investigate the notions of language shift in the Thai-Chinese community and the construction of Thai-Chinese identity in Hong Kong. We started with the following two research questions.
1. What is the different language choice across generations?
2. To what extent the language choices can be linked to the construction of Thai-Chinese identity in Hong Kong?
